I can’t really say if it is in the nature of man to always
blame someone for his or her misfortunes.
We always have someone to blame. Nobody wants to be held responsible. In
Genesis 3:12; “And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she
gave me of the tree, and I did eat”. That was Adam blaming Eve for making him
eat the fruit they were asked not to eat, even though he was given the
instruction not to eat it. So the game of blaming people has always been there.
But the question is, is it the right thing to do?
In Nigeria, the people blame the government for the level of
corruption and infrastructural decay while the government also try to blame the
people they are leading too (Peter Obi of Anambara State did that last week, I
read it on papers).
Even in the families, in the churches, societies in general,
everyone is blaming each other for one thing or the other. Nobody wants to be
blamed. But the truth is that everyone has a share of the blame, whether you
believe it or not. People are always blaming their enemies for their
misfortunes and hard times. There is always someone in the village responsible
for the hard times they pass through.
In Nigeria here, student who fails exam will always say
“The Lecture failed me” or “the lecturer gave me F”, but if a student passes,
it will now be “I made A in that course”. Nobody wants to be associated with
failure, even when you are the one involved. There is always a way to exonerate
yourself.
But is this the right way to make a head way in life? The
answer is NO. No man can make it by trying to take the blames off yourself. Sometimes,
we even have to give flimsy excuses why we have failed. If it is students, you
say your lecturer hates you. In your office, you say your boss hates you, that
is why you have not been promoted, and so on and so forth.
King Saul gave such excuse when he disobeyed God. He was
punished because of it. Your excuse will not change anything in the positive
angle, instead it will make you more relaxed and not working towards correcting
the mistake you have made before.
I want to encourage us to always take responsibility of the
things that happen in our life. It will help us look inwards and find out why
we have failed, why the problem is there, why we pass through these kinds of
things and then we start planning on avoiding such things to occur again. If
you believe you Lecturer gave you an “F”, you will never try to find out why
you failed and how to avoid the “F” next time. If you believe you Boss hates
you that is why you have not been promoted, it will even make you to be moving
around in self pity. Look in wards. Why does your boss hate you? What is your
attitude in office that is even if he/she hates you? Improve on your working
skills, work on yourself and see if things won’t change.
Take responsibility of your life and what comes out of it
and you start praying the right prayers that God will always answer. Stop
blaming others now. Learn to take responsibility. Learn to say; “I am responsible
for this”.
