Since last week, it has just been news about the final home
journey of the Ikemba Nnewi, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. The attention
this has pooled has been so much. Radio stations, TV stations, newspapers, the
internet and every other media house, it is just Ojukwu everywhere. And I have
been wondering if any person in Nigeria has ever gained that kind of publicity
and respect. He is dead but he can’t be forgotten in a hurry.
But what lesson are we to learn here? The lesson is nothing
but this; “Make a positive impact wherever you find yourself”. This man
believed in something and fought for it. What do you believe in and how many
times have you fought for it. I am not talking about violence, but Paul told Timothy
to fight the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12).
Let us know that we will always be remembered by the work we
do. You don’t need to die before you will be remembered. In organizations,
offices, churches (because I know we have been in different organizations, etc)
that we left in one point in our lives, what legacy did we leave there?
I read about the genealogy of Adam and I understood that
during that generation (Genesis 5:22), Enoch was the person that spent the
least number of years on earth but the bible said he did not see death. He
walked with God. But his son, Methuselah, was the oldest man that ever lived on
earth but the only thing bible recorded about him was giving birth to sons.
Jesus ministry lasted for just three and a half years and
the effect is still being felt.
It is not about your age; it is not about how long you have
to stay in that place you are now. What will you be remembered for in that organization,
if you leave there now? What will you be remembered for in your family, in your
church, in the neighborhood? Make that positive
impact and bring praise to God. Start now.
